Winter this year has been a horror!! The weather has been windy, cold, warm, unpredictable and long. The dreaded chest infection has turned up on our doorstop and infected me – chief cook and bottle washer. Look out, sirens are wailing and the boys are in panic mode (JUST KIDDING).
I have been taking every cold and flu supplement that I can find and living on vitamin c, ginger and garlic.
Tangelos are in season and they are so cheap at the supermarket at the moment, so I grabbed a few kilos and juiced them up. I also zest them and freeze it for use all year round.
Lemons are perfect for squeezing into tea or making a drink with honey and ginger slices.
LEMON, GINGER AND HONEY DRINK
1 or 2 lemons
1 thumb slice piece of ginger, sliced finely
1 teaspoon of honey – more if you like it sweeter
1 cup of boiling water
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Combine all into your favourite mug or make a larger batch in a teapot and let steep – DRINK IMMEDIATELY (can add whisky or brandy to make it into a HOT TODDY)
HOMEMADE CHICKEN STOCK – IT’S NOT AS HARD AS YOU THINK
A huge chicken salad always makes me feel better
