I don’t care who you are, everyone loves a sausage roll!!! Doesn’t matter the brand or if your mum makes the best ones in the world, everyone loves a sausage roll. They are in all Australian’s blood just like the good old faithful meat pie.
I have asked permission and here is my mum’s famous sausage roll recipe. Might not be gourmet but they are delicious. Also can be made in bulk and placed into the freezer. Just make to STEP THREE.
SAUSAGE ROLLS – MAKES AROUND 18 SMALL ONES
500g sausage mince
1 carrot, grated
1 clove of garlic, crushed
2 eggs, lightly beaten
dash of worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper
1 sheet of careme all butter puff pastry or 2 sheets of pampas
1/4 cup breadcrumbs breadcrumbs
1 onion, finely diced
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
STEP ONE
Preheat your oven to 180C. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper.
STEP TWO
Add the onion, carrot, garlic, mince and wet ingredients into a large bowl. Add in 1 beaten egg and season well.
STEP THREE
Place the pastry sheets out onto a work surface. Cut into half and place a mince portion down the centre of the pastry. Roll up into a log shape and cut into 6 equal pieces, making sure that the seams are sealed together and facing down on the tray. Complete with the other pastry piece and remaining mince until all the sausage rolls are made.
STEP FOUR
Brush the tops of the sausage rolls with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds. Bake in the oven for around 35 minutes or until golden brown and piping hot.
STEP FIVE
Serve with your favourite sauce or relish.
