GYOZA – DUMPLINGS

If there is one thing in our house that have been a huge favourite then Japanese Dumplings are it.  They are a great standby lunch or dinner or in my husbands case snack.  They freeze beautifully.

you will need the following ingredients –

400g pork mince

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

3cm piece of ginger, grated

2 cloves of garlic, crushed

1 chilli, chopped

6 spring onions, chopped

1 packet of gow gee wrappers

pastry brush

glass of water

Method:

1.  Place mince, onions, chilli, sesame oil, soy sauce, oyster sauce and garlic in a bowl.  Stir to combine.

2. Place wrappers on a cutting board or work surface.

3. Spoon 1 teaspoon of mince mixture on 1 half of the wrapper. Brush edges with cold water. Fold remaining wrapper halves over to enclose filling. Press edges together to seal.

To Cook:

~ Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large fry pan over a high heat.  Place about 10 dumplings in the pan and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the bases are browned.  Add 1/2 cup hot water and cover with the lid.  Cook for 5 to 7 minutes adding more water if necessary.

Remove from heat.  Uncover, stand for 1 minute or until dumplings come away from the pan easily.  Repeat this process with the remaining ingredients.

I make mine up and then put them into the freezer on the tray and let them set, once frozen I bag them up into zip bags in bunches of 10.  They can be cooked from frozen, it is the same cooking time.

Service with your favourite dipping sauce.
